A month after the viral campaign, FIFA responds to the players’ call and announces the first women’s futsal World Cup.

A month ago, the International Association of Futsal Players launched a viral campaign that became a global cry: “If they didn’t want to listen to us before, now they will have to see us.” With that powerful message, the futsal players demanded that FIFA create the women’s futsal world cup. Today, that claim has become a reality. FIFA has officially announced the creation of the Women’s Futsal World Cup.
The news has been celebrated throughout the world of women’s futsal. After years of struggle, campaigns and effort, the players’ fight has finally achieved its goal. The story dates back to 1989, when the first men’s Futsal World Cup was organized, which has had nine editions since then. However, women’s futsal had been waiting its turn all this time.
The AJFSF, which has been fighting for women’s players’ rights since 2010, launched its viral campaign in November 2022, and its impact has been immediate. Millions of people around the world joined the players’ call, sharing the video and demanding equality in sport.
FIFA’s announcement comes a month later as a historic achievement for the fight for equality in women’s futsal.
From AJFSF International we celebrate this achievement and appreciate the bravery and commitment of the players who raised their voices. As the women’s futsal world cup becomes a reality, the message of equality will continue in our fight.
