After years of tireless struggle, the International Association of Futsal Players celebrates a historic victory.

FIFA has confirmed the holding of the first Women’s Futsal World Cup for the year 2025, marking a before and after in the history of sport and a significant step towards gender equality in football.
The news comes after eight years of persistent efforts by female futsal players, who in 2015 raised their voices for the first time to demand equality in futsal, a sport that is invisible and discriminated against compared to its male counterparts.
The turning point came in 2022, when AJFSF International released a moving statement in video format, featuring some of the most prominent players in global sport. In the famous video, the players stated that “equality cannot be a promise,” and this message resonated throughout the world of sport and the media. The video was impossible to ignore, and at the end of 2022, Gianni Infantino, representing FIFA, officially announced the holding of the Women’s Futsal World Cup.
AJFSF International’s achievement represents an important step forward in the fight for equality in sport, and reflects the power of unity and determination. Although the exact date and host of the World Cup are yet to be confirmed, the news is a cause for celebration for female futsal players around the world.
The tournament will have sixteen participating teams, distributed across the different confederations, which ensures global representation. There will be three places for Asia (AFC), two for Africa (CAF), two for CONCAF (North America, Central America and the Caribbean), three for South America (CONMEBOL), one for Oceania (OFC) and four for Europe (UEFA), in addition to the host team that is yet to be determined.
This milestone marks a significant step in the quest for equality in women’s futsal and demonstrates that when players come together and raise their voices, they can achieve historic changes in the world of sport. The AJFSF International is proud to have led this fight and thanks each player for having accompanied and resisted injustice.
